The cottage sleeps up to 6 with 2 double bedrooms on the 2nd floor and a twin room at the top. The ground floor lounge, which opens on to the terrace, has an exposed stone arch, comfortable seating, an open firplace, a music centre, books & games.

The cottage is in the small friendly village of Montazels, just off the D118 between Limoux & Quillan. The south facing vine shaded terrace is ideal for taking in the fantasic views. Ideally placed for walking, cycling, fishing, canoeing, swimming and skiing, the local airports - Carcassonne, Perpignan, Toulouse and Gerona are all serviced by Easy Jet or Ryanair.

Being at the centre of the Cathare region, surrounded by hill top castles and the medieval city of Carcassonne just 40 minutes away, reminds you of the fascinating and often tragic history for which this region is renowned.

The local rivers, lakes and natural spas provide bathing opportunities plus the coast is just 90 minutes away.

Arrival and departure days are flexible except during July & August when change over is Saurday. Arrival time is after 15:00 and departure time is before 10:00.

A set of towels per person & bed linen are included in the rental price. There is a final cleaing charge of £45.


Accommodation details

Bedrooms : 2 Double Bedrooms, 1 Twin Bedroom. The accommodation is over 3 floors with 2 double bedrooms and a bathroom on the first floor and a twin room at the top. All the bedrooms have spectacular views. A travel cot is also provided
Bathrooms : 1 Bathroom. The cottage has been recently renovated and has a modern bathroom with bath and shower.
Kitchen : Cooker, Hob, Microwave, Fridge, Freezer, Dishwasher, Washing Machine, Iron. The kitchen with fridge/freezer, cooker, microwave, toaster, kettle and dishwasher has all you need for a comfortable stay.
Living room : The lounge, which opens onto the terrace, is equipped with a sofa, 2 easy chairs, a Stereo CD player, radio, books & games.
Dining room : The large sunny dining room seats 6. A high chair is also available.The lounge opens on the the terrace which is equipped with table & chairs and offers fantastic views of the surrounding countryside.


Facilities provided

The ground floor kitchen with fridge/freezer, cooker, microwave, toaster, kettle and dishwasher has all you need for a comfortable stay. The large dining room seats 6 and the lounge, which opens onto the terrace, is equipped with a Stereo CD player, radio, books & games.


Outside

Sitting on the south facing terrace with swifts wheeling overhead, enjoying the last rays of the days sun while sipping a glass of wine is an ideal way to end the day. With views to Renne-le-Chateau and Coustaussa Castle on the other side of the valley and, in the distance, the snow topped Pyrenees just visible.


Accommodation notes

The cottage has full central heating with a radiator in every room. The log burner provides extra warmth and atmosphere during the sometimes chilly winter nights.


Nearby Activities

There are several riding stables locally, along with facilities for hiring canoes, experiencing white water rafting and kayaking in the nearby gorges of the river Aude.


Local information

The hilltop village of Montazels is part of the rich and fascinating history for which this region is renowned, being the birthplace of B'renger Sauni're, the priest at the centre of the Rennes le Chateau mystery which gave rise to the plot of the recent Dan Brown book and film The Da Vinci Code.


Travel distances

Carcassonne is a 40 minute drive, Toulouse, 90 minutes & Perpignon 60 minutes - all with airports serviced by Ryanair or Easyjet.
The Mediterranean coast is an hour away. A day trip to Barcelona is another option, the Spanish border is 90 minutes drive with Barcelona another 45 minutes. Andorra, a low tax domain where the locals go to stock up on luxuries is a 90 minutes drive. There are local lakes with beaches, the nearest just 6kms. away at Arque.
