Cortijo la Mata is a traditional whitewashed Andalusian farmhouse constructed in the year 1911 which has been converted into two holiday cottages. Situated in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range yet only fifteen minutes by car from the Alhambra Palace and the city of Granada the house is located just outside the old moorish village of Monachil in an area of outstanding natural beauty surrounded by olive, almond and cherry trees.

For those who are looking for a complete escape to the Andalusian countryside yet want to take advantage of all that the city of Granada has to offer plus take in the ski slopes of Spain's highest mountain range the location is perfect.

Notes on Rental price

High season comprises of the months of June until September in Summer and December until April during the ski season. For weekly stays changeover day is on Saturdays although this can be flexible outwith the Summer months. Please be aware that during the months of winter Granada and almost all of interior Spain is cold - albeit sunny - and although it can be very pleasant to sit in the midday sun, average nightime lows are 0'C or less. It is therefore recommended that prospective guests be wary of sites claiming that just a small woodstove or gas heater will suffice.


Change over day/Arrival/Departures

Changeover is generally on Saturdays with a minimum stay of one week, although shorter stays of 4 days minimum can sometimes be arranged.

Check in time is no later than 05.00 pm. Check out time is no later than 11.00 pm in order to allow time to maintenance and preparation for the next cottage guests. If a later departure time is required or luggage is to be stored please mention to the owner.

Facilities provided

Both properties are well equipped and include all bedlinen, duvets, towels, TV, DVD, a small selection of books in both English and Spanish, crockery & tableware, fridge/freezer, electric or gas cooker, washing machine, dishwasher (in cottage II only), drying/ironing facilities plus full central heating and a large fireplace for use during the Winter.


Outside

Outside facilities include a well maintained swimming pool, barbecues, fully furnished patios and roof sun terrace with spectacular views across the Monachil valley, gardens, and private parking. The property also contains it's own private mountainside with paths leading up to the higher reaches of the surrounding hills.

All set within an enclosed plot of slightly more than 1,500 square metres.

Please note that the swimming pool is only open during the summer months of June through until September.

Local information

Apart from the obvious atractions of the city of Granada, Monachil and the Sierra Nevada ski station there are many other activities a bit further afield.

Granada is well know in Spain for the possibility of skiing in the morning and sunbathing in the afternoon. Beach resorts such as Salobreña and Almuñecar can be reached in 45 minutes by car from the village.

Ski station : 25-minutes drive


Skiing

Sierra Nevada ski station is only 25 minutes from the house with the added advantage that there is a separate road from the village to the resort hence avoiding much of the Granada city traffic.


Special interest

Apart from the local Monachil area itself the main attraction is without doubt Granada - the city of the Alhambra, Albayzin and the gypsy caves of Sacromonte. Trips to the Alhambra should be reserved in advance particularly in the months of summer.

Apart from the obvious atractions of the city of Granada, Monachil and the Sierra Nevada ski station there are many other activities a bit further afield.

Plenty of tourist information is available at the property.


Booking Details

A deposit of 25% of the rental fee (minimum 200EUR) is payable in order to secure the booking. Unless alternative payment details have been previously agreed between the Owner and the Client balance must be paid no later than four weeks prior to arrival. If the balance of the rental is not paid at latest one week after the agreed due date this shall be construed as a cancellation of the contract by the Client. Payment can be made in Sterling or Euros, full details are given at time of booking.

Any cancellation made by the Client for whatever reason must be received via email. If the booking is cancelled within two weeks of the arrival date, the entire rental fee will be forfeit. For cancellations made prior to two weeks before the arrival date, a percentage of the rental fee will be refundable, the percentage being calculated according to a sliding scale and increasing with the length of time between the date of cancellation and the arrival date.
