Spain - Ronda Area-Andalucia - Montecorto - SP266

Sleeps 2 (1 bedrooms)

Stunning traditional cottage set in 5 Acres
1 bedroom, 1 bathroom
Near The Lake

Lake Cottage/Finca Pantano is an exquisitely restored detached period cottage which provides the perfect retreat for 1 or 2 discerning guests. It sits in the heart of the Grazalema National Park in its own beautiful 10 acre orchard with hundreds of almonds, olives, walnuts and fruit trees. There are no neighbours and the only sounds are the bells of the local goat herd returning from the mountain - peace and quiet is absolutely guaranteed. The cottage is beautifully appointed with bags of original charm and character, with traditional period materials throughout. It is also the perfect base for exploring the cultural feast waiting for you in Ronda, the white-washed villages (Zahara and Grazalema are gems!), Seville, Jerez, Cadiz, Cordoba, Marbella and the Costa de la Luz. The lake is the perfect summer pool, and the winter walking is fantastic. A great base for discerning travellers looking for total peace and calm, all year! Hob/Stove, Oven, Fridge/freezer, Microwave, Iron/ironing board, room fans

Outside

There is a delightful terraced patio at the front of the cottage
with numerous planters, antique pots and reclining sun-lounging chairs, as well as a covered pergola at the side with a large tiled table and teak chairs... perfect for lazy breakfasts and romantic suppers!
The climate at the cottage is perfect for those wishing to spend much of their time in the great outdoors ... it is mild in the winter (it lies on the protected southern slopes of the mountain), never going below 5 degrees centigrade, and cooling breezes make it an excellent

Accommodation notes

There is no pool... but don't worry, nature provided the perfect alternative just along the track! The lake is clean and quiet, and maintains a comfortable temperature most of the year. Perfect for swimming and relaxing picnics! The house is well-insulated and is easy to warm up. The situation, on the southern sierra of the mountain is also warm throughout the year, and very rarely sees frost.

Local information

Just down the road from the cottage you will find 'Arroyomolinos', a small hamlet with a fantastic bakery and a great restaurant (opens all the time in summer and at the weekends / holidays in the winter). There are literally dozens of restaurants in the area, many within 10-20 mins from the cottage. Dining out is inexpensive and the local food is both varied and excellent. Local villages offer good facilities, including small supermarkets, whilst Ronda itself boasts hundreds of restaurants and bars, as well as a plethora of cultural delights

Travel distances

Airports to head for include - Jerez (50 mins), Seville (1 hour 15 mins), Malaga (1 hour 45 mins).
A car is essential. If hiring one, slightly larger than the smallest is recommended for the area generally. Ford Ka's, for instance, are not great at coping with Spanish terrain! The track to the house is fine for ordinary cars.
Zahara de la Sierra - 5 mins by car; Grazalema - 20 mins;
Ronda - 30 mins; Seville - 1 hour; Jerez / Cadiz - 45-60 mins;
Cordoba - 2 hours; Granada - 2.5 hours

Golf

Ronda will have a golf course soon, but for the time-being there are alternatives at Antequera (45 mins), Arcos (30 mins), and, of course, the Costa del Sol has dozens... around Marbella, Estepona, Mijas, Alhaurin, etc.

Skiing

The Sierra Nevada is worth visiting, as is the wonderful city of Granada at the foot of the mountains. The Alhambra gets busy, so always book ahead. The flamenco here is also well worth checking out.
